Many BMWs have an immobilizer in the EGS transmission control unit. This immobilizer works with a SK (security key). In terms of functionality, it is similar to an ISN code.
After replacing the transmission, it will no longer shift out of P (park). The transmission’s parking lock remains active, meaning you cannot put the car into D or R because of the immobilizer. The transmission must be initialized and the immobilizer reset. If this initialization is skipped, the EWS will ensure that the car cannot be moved.
Resetting and initialization can be done remotely, worldwide! For more information about remote programming, see this page: remote programming.

Which vehicles does this apply to?
This applies to the BMW X5 and BMW X6 with model codes E70 and E71.
This mechatronic (transmission control unit) contains an immobilizer code. If the ISN does not match the CAS module, it will trigger fault codes and prevent the car from being drivable.
Applicable, among others, to the following transmissions:
- BMW 8HP
- ZF 8HP
- BMW EGS
And car models:
- BMW X5: E70
- BMW X6: E71
