Adaptive shock absorbers have variable damping. This allows the car’s handling to become either sportier or more comfort-oriented.
BMW / Mini drivers may choose to no longer use this feature—for example, for track use. If you install dampers or shock absorbers without EDC support, you will receive an error message.
We can professionally remove this error message. Contact us to learn more about the possibilities!

What is EDC?
EDC stands for Electronic Damper Control. It is an advanced suspension system used by BMW in many of their vehicles. The system is designed to enhance the driving experience by adjusting the damping of the shock absorbers based on different driving conditions.
The EDC system uses electronic sensors and a control unit (module) to continuously adjust the shock absorber damping. These sensors measure parameters such as wheel condition, driving speed, steering input, braking, and acceleration. Based on this data, the system can adjust the damping force in real time, resulting in optimal stability, comfort, and grip on the road.
EDC often offers different modes, such as: Comfort, Sport, and Sport+.
Recently, we deactivated this error message for a customer who regularly drove on the Nürburgring Nordschleife, one of the most famous circuits. For an even better experience, he had purchased a KW V3 coilover kit. After installing this kit, he immediately received an error message, which we permanently removed.

How can I recognize this fault?
This fault appears in your instrument cluster and in your iDrive (if available). You can often also notice it in the car’s driving behavior.
If the car is scanned with a more advanced diagnostic tool (such as Autel or ISTA), additional faults will also be visible.
With an E92 M3, the following faults are often visible:
- 005FE6 5FE6 EDC: Shock-absorber valves, front axle
- 005FE7 5FE7 EDC: Shock-absorber valves, rear axle

How does the deactivation work?
The deactivation is carried out using professional tools that are connected to the car’s OBD port. Beforehand, a full backup of all parameters and coding is always made.
In sommige gevallen is het ook nodig om de EDC module af te koppelen, dat kan ter plekke worden gedaan.
